At ButterBlok, we believe materials tell stories. Every cube, every stitch, and every seam is designed with purpose — to be durable, tactile, and kind to the planet. Here’s what goes into creating travel gear that feels good to use and good to own.

MATERIALS

At ButterBlok, we believe that good design starts with good materials — the kind that care for people and the planet. Our products are crafted using Recycled PET (RPET) — an innovative, eco-friendly fabric made from recycled plastic bottles.

This material helps close the loop on plastic waste, transforming discarded bottles into soft, durable, long-lasting travel gear.

What Is Recycled PET (RPET)?

Recycled PET — short for Polyethylene Terephthalate — is created by collecting and processing post-consumer plastic bottles.

Each bottle is cleaned, flaked, melted, and spun into new yarn, which we use to make our RPET spun fabric — the foundation of every ButterBlok packing cube.

By using recycled plastic instead of virgin polyester, we help reduce landfill waste, energy consumption, and dependence on new raw materials.

01

Just 1 tonne of regenerated RPET yarn equals nearly 70,000 recycled plastic bottles — reducing CO₂ emissions by over 4 tonnes and saving over 1,400 gallons of water compared to virgin polyester production.

02

RPET fabric has a 75% smaller carbon footprint than virgin polyester and 50% lower than organic cotton — making it one of the most sustainable textile choices available today.

03

Our manufacturing partners use a closed-loop process, meaning that water and cleaning materials are continuously reused to minimise waste and energy use.

04

Despite being recycled, RPET retains the same strength, softness, and performance as new polyester — giving you gear that lasts for years of travel.

Our Fabric

Strong, flexible, and long-lasting

Every ButterBlok packing cube is made from RPET fabric

We chose this material because it gives waste a new purpose — and because sustainability shouldn’t mean compromise.
